As I am not currently working as an Instructional Designer, it was important to find a project that would serve a real-life purpose, addressing a genuine problem outside of work. As a volunteer at the International English Library (IEL) in Düsseldorf, I have offered support with technology integration, and general teaching and learning. After meeting with several volunteers, the discussion turned to how artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the world and how little those volunteers knew about it. Basing my project on this real-world problem at the library aligns with Brookfield's (1995) observation that 'most people point to learning in workplaces, families, communities and recreational societies to be more prevalent and significant than learning undertaken within formal education.'

Part 1 of the project focuses on the scoping and planning stage, focusing on the ‘analysis’ part of the ADDIE digital learning model. Part 2 presents the design stage with clear documentation aligned with the elements of Part 1, and the initial development stage, by presenting a prototype for one interactive resource, representing one lesson of the course. The Reflection that follows, gives an insight into my rationale and evaluation of the processes involved in both Parts 1 and 2, and a personal account of my journey creating this project. References for all supporting resources cited throughout the project, can be found at the end of this page.
